Latest crime update

From one of our neighbors on Marquette:

This morning(12/31/2007) at 0615 I heard a house alarm and saw a light color (white/silver) minivan (Chrysler/Dodge?) speeding out of the driveway of a house on Woodmere on the river. I called the JSO, when I got to work JSO called and informed me that the house had been broken into and they asked if I could give them a description of the vehicle or person driving. Unfortunately I was two blocks away and could not see any details.

There has been several incidences where ladies walking or jogging in the early morning hours have been harassed near the Ortega drawbridge and in parts of Ortega. Also, a jogger was mugged for his iPod at the intersection of Park and Copeland on Monday.

Stay safe!

Armed Robbery at Hungry Howie's

I'm not sure if anyone heard about this but it was in the Community Police Briefs in the Westside newspaper insert today.

On November 24th (Saturday), a man walked into Hungry Howie's on Herschel Ave. at 2 p.m. in the afternoon with a shotgun and robbed them. He was described as a "crackhead" (helpful).

Pretty bold person with clearly nothing to lose.

ShAdCo Meetings

Information from the COJ website about the ShAdCo meetings Officer Grant mentioned:

The Sheriff's Advisory Councils (ShAdCo) were established to assist the JSO accomplish its mission. ShAdCo members are a notable example of police-citizen partnerships. They provide feedback on law enforcement issues. They report suspected criminal activity and traffic problems in their sector.

Here's the list of ShAdCo leaders and information about when and where the ShAdCo meets:

Sector J
Chairperson: Curtis L. Johnson
Co-Chairperson: Alice Turknett
Meetings: 6 p.m., last Thursday of the month at WIllowbranch Library, 2875 Park St.

Two African American men dressed in shirts and ties noted today heading north on Woodmere at 3:25 p.m. I motioned for them to move on and told them "no thanks" through the window that Zeke was snarling through:)

Please take the advice of Officer Grant from Tuesday evening and DO NOT open your door to them or any other solicitors. We need to have ZERO tolerance for this type of thing. On that note, I am looking into purchasing "no soliciting" stickers in bulk for those who want them. Please let me know if you want one.

CALL 630-0500 for ANYTHING suspicious first and then please report it to Lori.
